Beauty Bar
why? Outfitted with a reception area, good looking people, drinks, and music...no, it's not salonblonde, it's Beauty Bar! The first Chicago edition opened at the end of March to a huge crowd. What's not to love about a place where you can get cheap manicures and martinis, sip cocktails while sitting on a vintage hair dryer chair, and dance the night away on a hot pink dance floor complete with disco ball? Be forewarned, going there might result in bumping into your favorite stylist!

Bake
why? Yummy, independently owned, tasty, adorable storefront, delicious, well-executed down-home pastries and desserts, heavenly, reasonably priced...did we mention yummy? Just when we thought we didn't need another bakery, Bake opens and quickly makes us eat our words. Bake is a husband and wife team promising "the best tasting classic American desserts you've ever had, using the finest ingredients possible". Me thinks they've delivered! Standouts are their whoopie pie, old-fashioned chocolate layer cake, coconut macaroons, and raspberry cream cheese brownies. Follow their progress at www.getbakedchicago.com
